Warm Homes Local Grant

Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG)

Up to £30,000 in Government-Funded Home Energy Upgrades

The Warm Homes: Local Grant is a brand-new UK Government scheme designed to help eligible households in England make their homes warmer, greener, and far more energy efficient — at no cost to the customer.

Launching in April 2025, the government has committed £500 million to improve the country’s least energy-efficient homes and support low-income families struggling with high energy bills.

What Is the Warm Homes: Local Grant?

The Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG) provides fully-funded home energy improvements through your local council. The scheme focuses on:

Improving insulation and reducing heat loss

Upgrading heating systems to clean, low-carbon alternatives

 Reducing household energy bills

 Tackling fuel poverty

 Supporting national Net Zero goals

With an EPC rating of D, E, F or G, many properties across England qualify for significant upgrades that can dramatically reduce running costs and improve comfort.

£500 Million Fund — Available from 2025 to 2028

The government has allocated £500m to local authorities across England, covering a three-year delivery window:

April 2025 → March 2028

Councils will assess eligible homes, appoint approved installers, and oversee delivery. Funding is limited, and once a council’s allocation is used, applications will close — so early registration is strongly recommended.

What Upgrades Are Available?

Depending on your home’s needs, the scheme can fund a wide range of improvements, where we are focusing on:

 Loft insulation

 Solar PV panels

 Smart heating controls

 Ventilation upgrades

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the grant, you must meet the following criteria:

Property Eligibility

You live in Milton Keynes, Bedford or Luton (the areas where we can help you).

Your home is privately owned - either owner-occupied or privately rented (with landlord consent if renting).

The property has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating between D and G (If you don’t have an EPC, we'll arrange one as part of the application).

Household Eligibility

Low household income — typically £36,000/year or less

OR living in qualifying low-income / high-deprivation areas

OR receiving certain means-tested benefits (varies by council)

Eligibility rules may differ slightly between local authorities, but the focus remains on supporting low-income households living in inefficient homes.

How Much Funding Can You Receive?

Households can receive up to £30,000 in total measures:

  • £15,000 for insulation & energy-efficiency improvements

  • £15,000 for low-carbon heating upgrades (only if you don't have a gas boiler already)

These are fully funded grants, meaning eligible customers pay nothing.

Why the Government Is Offering This Grant

The Warm Homes: Local Grant aims to create long-lasting improvements in home energy performance across the UK by:

  • Reducing energy bills for vulnerable and low-income families

  • Making homes warmer, healthier, and more comfortable

  • Cutting carbon emissions from residential heating

  • Supporting the UK’s transition to clean, modern heating systems

  • Targeting the homes that need the most support

How the Process Works

  1. Check your eligibility

  2. Book a free home survey through your local authority or their appointed installers

  3. A tailored improvement plan will be created for your property

  4. Fully funded installation of approved measures

  5. Enjoy a warmer, more efficient home with lower energy bills

Everything — from survey to installation — is arranged and paid for through the scheme.

Why Act Now?

Funding is limited and allocated per local authority. Once an area reaches its budget cap, no further homes can be accepted until the next funding cycle.

If your home is inefficient or expensive to heat, registering early ensures you don’t miss out.
