About Warm Homes Local Grant

The Warm Homes Local Grant (WHLG) is a government-backed programme designed to help eligible households make energy-saving improvements to their homes.

The aim is simple: reduce heat loss, improve comfort, and lower energy bills for households most in need of support.

Is it really free of charge?

Yes — if you qualify under Warm Homes Local Grant (WHLG), the work can be completed fully funded, meaning no cost to you.

Eligibility depends on a combination of:

  • Household circumstances

  • Income thresholds

  • Property suitability

  • Health or vulnerability factors

Our team will confirm your eligibility before any work is booked in.

What information will I need to provide?

To complete your WHLG eligibility check, we may need to request supporting information such as:

  • Proof of address

  • Basic household and property details

  • Evidence needed to confirm eligibility (where applicable)

We’ll always explain what’s required and why — and we only request what’s needed for the application and audit process.

Is there a minimum requirement before upgrades can be installed?

In some cases, yes. Warm Homes Local Grant is designed to ensure improvements are effective and long-lasting, which may mean your home needs essential insulation measures in place before certain heating upgrades can go ahead.

Where needed, we can often install insulation measures (such as loft or wall insulation) as part of the same funded project — helping the heating system perform better and keeping your home warmer for longer.

Will you need to improve ventilation as part of the work?

Sometimes, yes. When insulation is added or upgraded, it’s important that your home can still ventilate properly to reduce the risk of condensation or damp.

If ventilation improvements are required, this could include things like:

  • Improving airflow in key areas

  • Ensuring wet rooms (kitchens/bathrooms) have suitable extraction

We’ll confirm what’s needed after the technical survey.

Do I need to own my home?

Warm Homes Local Grant can apply to eligible homeowners, and in some cases private tenants may be eligible too (subject to landlord permission and scheme rules).

If you rent your home, we’ll advise you on what’s possible and what permissions are needed after your application.

What happens next after I apply?

Once you submit your details:

  1. We check eligibility for WHLG funding

  2. We arrange a technical survey (where required)

  3. Your survey is reviewed and the best measures are confirmed

  4. We pass your project to an accredited installer

  5. The installer contacts you to book in the work

Most customers hear from the installer within a couple of weeks, depending on demand and location.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. All work is carried out by approved, fully accredited professionals and includes the relevant protections and warranties that apply to the installation.

You’ll receive confirmation of what’s being installed, and any applicable manufacturer warranty or workmanship cover.

Will I ever be asked to pay towards the cost?

The work is fully funded under Warm Homes Local Grant with absolutely zero cost to you. â€‹

I’ve changed my mind — can I cancel?

Yes. You can cancel at any time before the first measure is installed, with no cost to you. If you need to cancel, just contact us and we’ll help.
